A Verdict that Shocked!

Yesterday, May 31, 2024 will be a day that nobody will forget. It came as a shock to many Americans, Donald Trump Guilty on 34 class E felony counts. As the verdict was read it had many people asking the same question, what is he guilty of? It has been called the “hush money” payment case but that does not describe the illegality of the case. Each felony conviction is for falsifying business documents but even that doesn’t tell the whole story. To ask yourself if this was political you have to know the whole story. Once you do this verdict can only be described one way, Political.

This stems from an issue eighteen years in the making. In 2006 Donald Trump and Stormy Daniels are said to have had an affair, something Trump denies. When she threatened to go public with the information nine years later during Trump’s Presidential Campaign she was paid $130,000. This money, paid by Michael Cohen, was intended to keep her quiet and having to sign an NDA (nondisclosure agreement). Even if this is all true, you are probably still wondering where the felonies come in?

The accusation was that Trump paid Stormy Daniels because his Presidential Campaign would be ruined if this information got out. According to Michael Cohen, Trump told him to do whatever you have to do to keep this quiet. Trump supposedly told Cohen that his campaign would be over. There was absolutely no chance that he was worried about the pain it would cause his family, just the campaign. The only “proof” of this is the word of Michael Cohen and again you are probably wondering where the 34 felony counts come in.

Two years after he was out of office in April of 2023, the Manhattan District Attorney announced that his office would be bringing indictments in regards to the hush money case. This is the point you start to wonder if politics are playing a part in this decision, along with all of his other indictments, which we will get to later. Donald Trump is indicted on 34 Counts of falsifying business records. This is where the confusion comes in and has many people asking what exactly he is being accused of. Falsifying business documents is usually considered a misdemeanor which has a statute of limitation of 2 years. Alvin Bragg then raised the charges to a felony allowing him to bring an indictment, six months before the election.

This is where it gets even trickier and more complicated than it already is. To convert these to felonies and allow Bragg to bring indictments he had to prove that the business records were falsified for the sole purpose of committing a crime or covering another crime up. The business records in question are payments Trump made to Michael Cohen supposedly paying him back for the money he gave to Stormy Daniels. Michael Cohen originally made the payment with the expectation that Trump would pay him back. Cohen claimed he also knew exactly what he was being paid back for and the reason behind it. To add more confusion the chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg created a plan on how the payments should be made to Cohen. Explained in court on a hand written note (I am not joking), Weisselberg testified that the reimbursement would be made in equal payments of $35,000 made each month over the course of a year with the first payment totaling $70,000.

This is many issues and problems about this whole situation that I don’t understand and is the first point where I started to think this was politically motivated. First, this payment plan was made by Cohen and Weisselberg, for what reason I do not know. Second, if you do the math it totals $420,000, not $130,000. So how did they reach this amount, $130,000 to Stormy Daniels and $50,000 to an unrelated business expense that has nothing to do with this. This amount was then doubled and another $60,000 was tacked on as a bonus to Michael Cohen. These payments were then made by the Trump Organization controller Jeff McConney at the direction of Weisselberg. This is where I asked myself what is going on, still wondering where a 34 count guilty Verdict came from.

Well, now we finally get to the documents. After seeing where the 34 Counts came from I was pretty convinced this was politically motivated and an attack on the former president. I will try to explain this the best I can, which is why nobody knows what the charge actually is and how the jury could possibly reach that verdict. There was a total of eleven payments made over the course of 2017. Each payment included the check that was written, the invoice to Cohen that the payment was made, and a voucher that was written for his business records. That includes eleven checks with eleven invoices, totaling twenty-two. Since the vouchers are for business records there is one for each month, totaling twelve, coming to the final count of 34. See what I mean? How could anyone possibly come to the conclusion that was made yesterday.

If that isn’t enough of a reason to think this case was politically motivated, there is more. During closing arguments the Biden campaign made an appearance in the front of the court house. To make matters worse who did they show up with, the one and only Robert DeNiro. But it wasn’t who showed up but why he showed up and what he told everyone there. DeNiro berated the Trump supporters there by yelling one attack after another against the former President. It was countless name calling and insults, telling the people there that Trump was “embarrassment to this country” and that “he would like to punch him in the face”. He made it clear to people that they should all be in fear and scared and that “if Trump returns to the White House, you can kiss these freedoms goodbye that we all take for granted. And the elections, forget about it. That’s all done. If he gets in, I can tell you right now, he will never leave.”

After knowing the facts of his criminal case and the Biden campaign showing up at the courthouse you can’t say the system worked. The only conclusion is that this was politically motivated. Especially looking at the condition we are in now and the current President the democrats know there only chance is to remove Trump from the race altogether, by any means necessary. You always hear the media say Trump is the threat to this country and our democracy. All you have to do is remember the first two years he was in office before Covid, the country was moving forward in a positive direction. Things were getting better and all the things they say he is going to do if elected didn’t happen the first time he was office. He didn’t become a dictator, or take people’s rights away, or start a bunch of wars, he made this country better. Can the same be said about President Biden. They are constantly talking about January 6, calling it an attempted coup, but are the democrats any better.

Election interference is constantly being brought up and the media is trying to convince people that Trump will interfere in the elections and do whatever it takes to get into office. How can anyone say that what the democrats are doing now isn’t election interference. Threatening people, calling Trump supporters stupid and un-American, making feel afraid if Trump wins, in my mind that is the definition of election interference. Each side is always saying that if that was them in the office acting in a certain a way people would act different. They wouldn’t get away with it. All that does is divide this country and create the situation we are in now. But if you honestly sit and look at what is going on, how can you not feel that way. They say Trump is mentally unstable and unfit to run this country even though Biden was told he is not even competent to stand trial. The fact that he seems lost all the time and doesn’t seem to know what is going on half the time, how can we watch that and think that politics are not involved in what is going on. You may not like either nominee but it comes down to one simple decision, who is the better person to do the job. I am sure many people have bosses they can’t stand but they do there job and it is why they are your boss. You don’t have to like the man, just look at who is better suited to do the job. When you look at that, the choice should be simple.

Very well said. I am still shaking my head over the absurdity of it all. I stand, as always with Trump.
