President Donald Trump plans on signing an executive order that will abolish the department of education. President Trump has claimed that the department of education is failing the children in this country. The ones in charge of our children’s education should be the parents and the states and not the federal government. I have to say that seeing how much schools have changed since I attended I agree with the president. As part of his plan to abolish programs that seem to be wasteful spending I think this is a program that fits this criteria.

The department of education has given the federal government more control of children’s education and they do not seem to be doing well. Test scores have been declining and new programs they have implemented many people don’t agree with. The more the federal government takes control of the education system the less the parents know what is going on. Many schools who are teaching students controversial programs have actually been told not to inform the parents. Parents used to play an active role in what their children were learning and now they are being purposefully excluded.

New programs that have implemented in our schools are part of our previous presidents administration. A lot of them have to do with DEI programs that seem to be being forced on our society. Students are taking classes that are supposed to “teach” them about race and discrimination as well as gender identity. Our government is spending billions of dollars teaching our kids about topics that should be left up to parents and is not what our education system was designed for. The programs are forcing ideologies on our children without informing there parents. Meanwhile the areas where schools should be teaching our children, like math and english, have seen a decline in test scores.

I believe the department of education needs to be abolished for the sake of our children’s future. These new programs are doing more harm to our children than good. They are more focused on these new “woke” policies. It is time that our schools start teaching kids what they are supposed to be teaching them and leave their beliefs, ideologies, and behaviors to the parents and there communities. Schools are supposed to be preparing students for college. These new programs they are focusing on are only going to hurt their chances to get into a college.

I don’t know how schools have changed so much and why more people are not upset with what is going on. When I heard about these programs that were being taught in schools I couldn’t believe it. I went to school in the 90’s and can’t believe how different they are now. Education is no longer about learning about math, reading, and our history but on our beliefs and behavior. What does gender identity have anything to do with teaching us to be prepared for college and our future?

Why does the federal government think it is their responsibility to tell a child that they don’t have to remain the same sex as the one they were born with? The fact that they implemented new programs in our schools and hide these teachings from their parents should tell the American people a lot. These decisions should be left to the child and their parents and should have nothing to do with the federal government.

If schools want to have programs like these they should not be at the cost of our taxpayers. They should be voluntary and the decision should be made with the student, the school, and the parents. Our education system and students test scores in primary categories, such as math and English, are much worse than a lot of other developed countries. This has gotten worse since the department of education has been implementing its new policies.

The federal government is supposed to be there to ensure that they are doing what is best for the American people. If there are programs that are failing to do this than they need to be abolished. It is the American taxpayer that pays for these programs. Why should our tax dollars go to pay for a program that is hurting our children. The department of education is changing how our schools operate and what they are teaching our children without asking or consulting with the parents of these children. The fact they are hiding from the parents should be enough for people to want to abolish this program.

President Trumps decision to sign an executive order to abolish the department of education is aligned with his campaign promises. This is a decision I completely agree with and think every American who has a child in school should agree with too. This bill won’t pass unless congress approves it as well. This program needs to be abolished, the futures of our children depend on it.
